,

Y’know. It’s starting to dawn on me that for as much as she’s playing a pretty pivotal role in the entire game, I haven’t really introduced Queen Kuli properly. SO uh… Here goes.

Queen Kuli – for lack of any other way of describing her – is kinda crazy. The way I’ve been describing her is by saying that if she were born in any other time period, everyone would probably be very quick to tie her to a stake and burn her because of how absolutely off her rocker she is, but because of the timing for when she was born and with everything going on, she just happens to be the right kind of crazy that the world seems to need to keep it all from crashing and burning.

Leading up to the story, she’s constantly caught confiding in everyone around her that some crazy shit is happening because she can just feel it which – even for Pucks who are naturally in tune and able to pick up on everything going on when it comes to the magic of the world – sounds a little bit crazy. She also doesn’t really seem to be telling anyone this because she’s expecting them to do anything about it. In fact, she just kind of … starts doing shit because of this feeling which makes everyone else eye her leading up to Ash and Flowers of Azraeém when she suddenly goes missing and the only thing everyone has left to go on are plans that she drafted up just in case this exact thing ends up happening.

Weird.

Kuli is a bit unique to the game (similar to Isteen) in that she’s a character that I made pretty specifically for this game, so she has no real definition outside of the world that’s been made and the role that she plays.

As a Queen – she’s honestly pretty even tempered and even keeled. She – like other Pucks who are in any position of power and influence – take the role they play pretty seriously. Part of the canon in the world is that Pucks wear crowns made of Flowers as a perpetual reminder that their time as rulers over their people is extremely fragile and can end at any given minute either due to the natural course of life and the risks that come with being in such a high ranking position or because the people have decided that they want someone new to represent them entirely.

But outside of that, she’s uh… Weird. In fact a huge thing about her growing up was that the only time they could really get her to fall in line was when she had to do her lessons around being a royal figure and the responsibilities that come along with it. Otherwise, she was just being a massive troll and doing a lot of that trolling with Kellum – the character who would inevitably become her body guard (Who we will be doing a post on eventually because he’s his own flavor of fun in the story).

Another thing is that unlike a lot of the other Pucks in Royal positions, she has a pursuit that she pursued. Why? Because she’s fucking weird.

And also? It made her happy.

Yes, yes, I know, she glows in the dark but come on how did you not see that coming from her original design. I’m still waffling on whether or not I want her freckles to glow too but I’m going to leave that executive decision to E. because I feel like someone needs to be able to say when I’m being too extra and in this situation, that probably won’t be me.

Part of her armor is also the helmet of her Father and King of Eventide Court – King Salen – that he wore during The New War and Minor Skirmishes for reasons.

The Pursuit she’s trained in is the Mystic Dagger which in the game is meant to be the epitome of Sword and Sorcery. They have different Sources for their magic and the Source that she uses is The Cosmos (which is a fancy way of saying that her magic comes from The Governors and everything she does is basically made to appease them).

Other fun things to note which may be a little spoilery is that you do find out that after getting kidnapped, she leaves a trail of glowing heads that belong to the people that betrayed her and played a role in this happening because no one likes someone who can’t uphold their end of a bargain.

The Glowing Heads part isn’t specific to her, it’s just something The Pucks can do because they – again – really don’t appreciate people who fail to uphold their end of the bargain.

Fun fact! The poison coagulates the blood so that when they cut off their head, it doesn’t get super messy!

And that’s it? Probably? IDK man. We are admittedly in the middle of working on a ton of stuff but I really didn’t want to leave the blog empty while we’re working on bigger things so I hope you enjoy this quick spiel on Queen Kuli. She’s really neat.

Until next time.
